VPN is blocking Apple Car Play

Hi Alison. I had the same problem. Took me a while to find it was the VPN and all good once I disconnected it. I have a Toyota I am not tech savvy so I'm not sure which one has caused the issue as I had no problem until a few weeks ago

Possible Causes

• Network routing conflict — CarPlay relies on direct local network communication (especially over Wi-Fi or USB), which can be interrupted when VPN routing is active.
• VPN protection scope — Trend Micro VPN may be redirecting all network traffic, preventing CarPlay from recognizing the iPhone’s local network interface.
• iOS security behavior — Some iOS versions limit CarPlay connectivity when a system-wide VPN is active.

 

Recommended Solutions

Disable VPN when using CarPlay

• Open the Trend Micro Mobile Security or Trend Micro VPN app.
• Turn Web Guard / VPN OFF before connecting to your car.
• Once CarPlay is connected and functioning, you may re-enable the VPN afterward if needed.
